Well written but somewhat dated

This was a well written text book that gives an introduction to a great number of important fields. It does a particularly good job giving a fair treatment to some options that are often overlooked in books on sustainable energy such as geothermal and nuclear energy. It also gives a good background in the economics of electricity and liquid fuels.

It is however already quite dated. The book was published right before the price of oil started to soar, and completely didn't see it coming. Many statements support the idea that oil will be cheap for many decades to come. They certainly were not alone in not seeing this coming, but it is sometimes hard to take them seriously on other subjects when they keep referring back to the low price of oil.

Extremely useful reference, if a bit dated

I've been working in the energy field for the past few years, and this is one of the few references I've found that describes all of our energy options with real depth. Information is well organized and systematically laid out. The book is, as others have pointed out, unfortunately already outdated.

Good reference book; not necessarily great for students entering the field

As a student with little to no experience in the field, some topics and language can be overwhelming. As an electrical engineer, I have some background into the technologies presented. However, some concepts are either presented lightly or ambiguously. The later chapters cover some technologies in-depth and present their uses and future well. However, the intro chapters present a steep learning curve for the reader.

Would recommend as a reference.

About the Author
WARREN MURPHY was born in Jersey City, where he worked in journalism and politics until launching the Destroyer series with Richard Sapir in 1971. A screenwriter (Lethal Weapon II, The Eiger Sanction) as well as a novelist, Murphy’s work has won a dozen national awards, including multiple Edgars and Shamuses. He has lectured at many colleges and universities, and is currently offering writing lessons at his website, WarrenMurphy.com. A Korean War veteran, some of Murphy’s hobbies include golf, mathematics, opera, and investing. He has served on the board of the Mystery Writers of America, and has been a member of the Screenwriters Guild, the Private Eye Writers of America, the International Association of Crime Writers, and the American Crime Writers League. He has five children: Deirdre, Megan, Brian, Ardath, and Devin.

Family and Honor

Somewhat unusual in that Stone and Freya have each a storyline dealing with family. Remo Williams is their father with different women.

Great is back in her homeland, a chain of islands north of Scotland, participating in a ceremony that would restore her mother's honor. Stone wants to find his mother and is somewhat disappointed at what he finds.

A story of family and honor.

Keep 'Em Coming...

So, #5 in this evolving series now sits on my Kindle. A long time fan of the original Destroyer Series I'm still getting to grips with this new generation. My personal benchmark for this series so far is #2 The Killing Fields. This one still doesn't hit that for me but interestingly I'm starting to get a real feel for this evolving universe that Warren and Gerald are creating. This was a pretty darn good addition to the series. More background on Stone, although my wish for the guy to toss the cigs and centre hasn't happened yet, so my irritation with that will have to continue, but not for too long please guys. Freya's storyline I found the most compelling. Thank goodness she's back to her old self. Wandering around for nearly two novels like a chicken with a broken wing was starting to do my head in. I really enjoyed this and am looking forward to #6. Bring it on guys.

A BOOK that should be read by anyone interested in communicating - I believe that's all of us. Morgan was a lawyer who became enthralled with the Iroquois as a grown man, as did many other men at the time, when Indians were seen as noble savages. (They would recite Hiawatha at meetings, for example.) He spent as much time as he could with Iroquois elders reconstructing their way of life. He was the first to record and undestand their kinship as part of their matrilineal descent groups or clans which would lead him to research for the Smithsonian on Native American kinship.Systems of consanguinity and affinity of the human family. His book on material culture served as a model for ethnography,Lewis H. Morgan on Iroquois Material Culture but his undestanding of social and political organization was even more important. His experience, plus the influence of Darwin, would lead him to construct the evolution of human society.Ancient society: or, Researches in the lines of human progress from savagery, through barbarism to civilization [ 1877? ] As the title suggsts, Morgan posed three major stages of social evolution, with three divisons in each stage. Savages were food collectors; barbarians were food producers, with civilization culminating in the Western World.
With his experience and all his writing, Morgan became regarded as the founding father of American anthropology, but lacking any students he is considered as an intellectual founder rather than the founder of the discipline, an honor that goes to Franz Boas.A Franz Boas Reader: The Shaping of American Anthropology, 1883-1911 (Midway Reprint)

I read this book for my Classic Ethnographies seminar at school. It is by far one of the most interesting ethnographies I have had the pleasure of reading. It combines ethnography with history and gives the reader a good overall view of the Iroquois. I can't recommend this book enough. Beautifully illustrated children's book...

Zebra is a beautifully illustrated, easy-to-read children's book. It's a cute story about a lonely Zebra who wanted someone like himself to love and to love him. The pictures are certainly eye-capturing and the words are simple enough for a new reader to be able to read the book for themselves. Karen Hart did an wonderful job illustrating the book to correspond with the story at the appropriate times. This is a story than many children will enjoy.

Not what I expected! Teaching through story telling

This is a great read for entrepreneurs. Kiyosaki's stories of military school are interesting & his comparisons to traditional education are insightful. I didn't realize how many bad habits I needed to unlearn! From the table of contents the 8 Lessons are:

8 Military Lessons that translate into Business

Another GREAT book and read from Mr. Kiyosaki. A wonderful book that teaches us to be successful is more about discipline, routine, following a code of honor, building relationships and about serving. My biggest takeaway is that to be successful or failing may have more to do about not knowing what we don't know vs. what we know. This is a simple read with deep insights. I highly recommend it, especially for anyone thinking about going to college, while not knowing what you want to do.

Let me tell you it's great! Being in the Army

I devoured the book in less than a day.Let me tell you it's great! Being in the Army, it sparked a new passion in what I do, what lessons the military is teaching me ( even though I may not be fully aware of it) , and what added value I can contribute back to the community based on my experience. Not only did it give me a perspective of someone looking back, but it also made me more aware of the the opportunities that are all around me in the military RIGHT NOW. What a great resource.
