I would recommend Rapture: The Big Daddy to anyone who likes ...

I am worried that if there is a book per main character that this will dilute the plot arc. Fingers crossed I am wrong on this. Other than those small things, I would recommend Rapture: The Big Daddy to anyone who likes a novel with kick ass heroines. One way is given in this book - you keep a few good humans around who are willing to supply you when needed.

Nice short story, a little too short

Rapture: Big Daddy was the story of how an emigrant family to Rapture became entangled in the plasmid trade. It was a good read over all, if a bit short. The story could have continued further to describe the main character's experience as a big daddy, but ended abruptly instead. Not bad for an adaptation from a videogame, though.

Just okay. John Shirley's is better.

I thought the book was interesting in giving a background of the struggles and environment of Rapture before the fall, but with inconsistencies such as incomplete sentences, mixed up sentences, misspellings, and irritating errors, I'm not sure I will continue reading the series. Aside from these errors, I was not impressed by the quality in writing. It seems the development of the outlined sorry took more thought, and the wiring was lazily slapped down.

I purchased the mass market paperback copy of John Shirley's BioShock: Rapture and am much more pleased with it's professionalism. It is written excellently and does not irritate me.

I understand that errors happen, but this book is very short. It should have been reviewed better.

Excellent text for college course on parties (& elections)

I teach Political Science at a liberal arts college, and have used the 13th edition of this text for two semesters in my Parties & Elections course. I find it to be an excellent text. As the title suggests, the book focuses on political parties (rather than elections), covering "party in government," "party organization," and "party in the electorate" thoroughly. That said, Party Politics in America goes beyond parties to discuss material more relevant to elections as well: It includes two chapters on nominations, one chapter on the general election, and a chapter on campaign finance. The "party in the electorate" section also does a great job covering electoral behavior. So that's professor's perspective; I should add that my students also seem to enjoy the text. It's informative while also being kind of fun. The one problem with the 13th edition is that, although copyrighted in 2009, it doesn't make it to the 2008 general election; the updated 14th edition, which I adopted for my fall course, does.

Nesbit wrote three books about the Bastables: The Story Of The Treasure Seekers, in which the six Bastable kids look for treasure to restore treir family's fallen fortunes, New Treasure Seekers, a beautiful collection of wonderful Bastable adventures, and the Wouldbegoods, in which the motley troop goes on vacation with their cousins, form the soceity of Wouldbegoods, (in which the motive is to do one good deed a day) and fail miserably. The first thing Noel does is climb the chimney and fetch down a few bricks, a bird nest and a couple tons of soot. A faculty member at Cal Poly from 1979 until 2009, Roxy served for six years as Chair of the Statistics Department before becoming Associate Dean, a position she held for 13 years. She received an M.S. in Mathematics and a Ph.D. in Applied Statistics from the University of California, Riverside. Roxy is nationally known in the area of statistics education, and she was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award in Statistics Education at the U.S. Conference on Teaching Statistics in 2009. In 2003 she received the American Statistical Association's Founder's Award, recognizing her contributions to K-12 and undergraduate statistics education. She is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association and an elected member of the International Statistics Institute. Roxy served for five years as the Chief Reader for the Advanced Placement Statistics Exam and has chaired the American Statistical Association's Joint Committee with the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics on Curriculum in Statistics and Probability for Grades K-12 and the Section on Statistics Education. In addition to her texts in introductory statistics, Roxy is also co-editor of "Statistical Case Studies: A Collaboration Between Academe and Industry" and a member of the editorial board for "Statistics: A Guide to the Unknown, 4th Edition." Outside the classroom, Roxy likes to travel and spends her spare time reading mystery novels. She also collects Navajo rugs and heads to Arizona and New Mexico whenever she can find the time.

Excellent!

I drew on the probability chapter a great deal in my introductory master's level course on biostatistics for public health students (I had gotten a preprent of this chapter at the Joint Statistical Meetings). Dr. Peck has a real gift for making concepts clear, and I am quite eager to see the full text!

Works well.

Nice book with an appealing layout that once you get used to it is very user friendly. Could really do with a glossary. I am very disappointed that it doesn't have one. The examples are mostly good but some of the later ones like in chap. 10.3 are really confusing and not at all user friendly. The answer key is sometimes incomprehensible when trying to use it to reverse engineer a problem. Again this is more true with the later sections of the book.

a great book of Celtic legend!!!

I read this book for the first time when I was ten and I still can pick it up and be swept away to the windy peat bogs of the Emerald Isle. All Saint's Eve-Hallowe'en to us Yanks-is presented with incredible color and vitality and embodies the struggle of good against not so good. Because of this book, the Northern Lights will forever be "The Merry Dancers." Anyone interested in sharing or learning celtic legend and tradition on an engaging level with their family will profit from this book. It is definitely a "must-have" in my house!

A STRANGER CAME ASHORE was a thrilling story of a selkle king who came to take away a little boy's sister to the sea. I'm twelve and I thought it was a great book. People who like fantasy and adventure stories will love it. I also recommend A MERMAID SUMMER by Molly Hunter.
