These books make the later books more powerful

I have read all of the other Seth and Jane Roberts books, and reading these early sessions books has shed more light on everything that I learned from the later books. Seth pretty much says the same things in these early sessions, but he puts it in a different light. He often told Jane and Robert that he was paving the way for more complex ideas during the early sessions, and reading the way the explains the more complicated ideas in simpler terms sometimes really makes them even more clear. If you think you understand the Seth material now, when you read the early sessions you will be amazed at how much more you understand. It's also very interesting to see how much Seth really told them in the earliest sessions. I assumed that he started them out slowly and it took a long time to get to the ideas that I read about in the later books. But Seth quickly took them from simple concepts to more complex ones. I really recommend these early sessions to anyone who thinks they know the Seth material!

An important Series

In the early sessions, you can follow the evolution of the information relayed by Seth and translated by Jane Roberts. Many of the ideas communicated here are fleshed out better in latter work, but there are enough fresh views to make these books valuable in their own right. And some of the things found in these books are necessary steps to understanding the world espoused by Seth.

There are a lot of private Jane & Robert sessions incorporated into the material. Many of these sessions have little vital information to be related and can be skipped, but I found it better to at least skim through them for the occasional line of wisdom and an overview of how Jane and Robert themselves managed their early spiritual development, not to mention how they adjusted to the information being given to them from Seth.

All told, this series is an important addition to one a seminal work that still continues to change the way we all view and relate to the world around us.

I have the paperback versions of most of the Jane Roberts/Seth books. I still will get the kindle version since it is so easy to search with key words for interesting passages. The Seth books are a great way to live your life through following the suggestions in the books in every day life. Only wish I had found them sooner.

Highly Entertaining Read

I highly recommend this book. It is highly entertaining and well written for it's time. Let me say I would take it all with a grain of salt. I personally knew Ray Fowler the author. I worked at the same government contractor location that he did. (This information is in Ray Fowler's biography available on line and thus considered open source information.) We built the command and control for the ICBM missle systems. Coincidentally, many of the UFO reports in the Mid-West and West were over SAC ICBM Missle bases in the 60's, 70's and 80's... The government objected to Ray Fowler's extracurricular activities due to the sensitive nature of our work. Ray retired early, but I don't know if it were related to his UFO research and related FOIA requests. Before that however, in the September or October 1983 issue of "Boston" magazine there was an article about unusual societies in New England. One such discription of an unusual society and the accompanying photo was about a UFO research group based in New England. The photo of the society members was taken at ground level in black and white just after dusk to give it an erie effect. The members in the picture included Ray Fowler, the public relations director, the VP and GM, and another executive member of the government contractor that Ray Fowler and I worked for. The public relations director was well connected with the television, radio, and written print media groups in the Boston Area at that time. I sometimes wonder if it was done as an inside gag! It was also rummored that one of Andreasson's relations also worked with us. The defense contractor that we worked for no longer exsists in name, nor at that location where I worked with Mr. Fowler. It was bought by a larger defense contractor in the 1990's and relocated. Ray Fowler was a highly respected man at work and very keen on the UFO research movement.

Disappointment

Absolute disappointment. Going by the authors name I expected a better content and presentation.
The book claims not to teach statistics. But hardly anything about SAS.
At the best it is a collection of specific examples. Now I am back to searching the net or the little sas book.
For example when i tried to see the options with proc freq the only option that the examples have is nocum.
The book in my opinion does not deserve any stars.I am giving a star because without that I cannot submit my review

This Spelling Game teaches spelling, improves the working memory and increases vocabulary. When the author was teaching English, it became evident that the students not only had problems with spelling but this problem was exacerbated by a very limited working memory. We know that our language is stored in our brains according to the sounds of words. (Thus, when we are recalling language, we often make mistakes and recall incorrect words that sound very similar to the ones intended.) Learners often have difficulty in retaining information in the working memory for any length of time. In addition, at first, the information that they can store is very limited. This game uses our awareness of these difficulties and improves spelling and the working memory as well as increasing vocabulary in the students. Words that sound similar and contain similar patterns are grouped together. Part of the engagement with the spelling includes the need to know the meanings of words before using them. Thus, in many of the students, their vocabulary will increase as part of the process. Pictures are used to interrupt the recalling process and to engage the learner in other activities before producing the word(s) being taught thereby forcing students to retain the word(s) in their working memory for a longer time than usual. The pages are designed to be used flexibly. Learners can gradually increase the amount of information they try to retain in their working memory until they can measure their success by remembering more and more at each session. This game is suitable for self-teaching for people of all ages, and is ideal for pair work in classes. It would involve only supervision on the part of the teacher.

About the Author
Dr Rosemary Westwell has been teaching for over 40 years. She has taught all ages from 5 to 70, in primary, junior and secondary schools and teaches on a one-to-one basis at home. Dr Westwell really enjoys the variety of students she teaches and considers each one on an individual basis. After studying her own language learning for her PhD on ‘The Development of Language Acquisition in a Mature Learner’, (http:eprints.ioe.ac.uk/48/) she discovered that four main factors were extremely important to a learner: the language source material, the methods used, the attitude of the language source material, the student and the teacher and, as expected, memory. This information changed her approach to teaching and has inspired her to take particular notice of how she adapts her lessons to suit each student: e.g., - not just any book will do. She has written a number of books and three of these are on learning languages: ‘Out of a Learner’s Mouth’ (which is an informal diary of her acquisition of Spanish as a mature learner) and ‘Teaching Language Learners’ which is a DIY book of ideas for new and experienced teachers of English as a Foreign Language and ‘The Spelling Game’. She writes reviews for events in the Ely area on her blog (www.reviewsrjw.wordpress.com). She conducts a local ladies’ choir: ‘The Isle Singers’ which gives concerts locally on a regular basis and she is a member of the Ely Rotary Club. Short comments, articles and book reviews appear in her ‘language’ blog (www.elyforlanguage.wordpress.com). She gives regular talks about her writing, her childhood in Tasmania (‘An Aus in England’), and her flat in Spain and she is a volunteer speaker for Water Aid. Dr Westwell usually presents a workshop at the IATEFL conferences and in 2012 in Glasgow the subject was ‘Tips for Teaching IGCSE English as a Second language’. The subject at the IATEFL Conference for 2013 in Liverpool is ‘Mental Imagery and Language Learning’. She has also written a more personal account of her experience married to a man who gradually succumbed to early onset dementia. A nice introduction; could have been juicier

I read this book almost simultaneously with my reading of "Hidden Order" and "Undercover Economist". I'll state my opinion on this book briefly:

1. This book tells you about the lives of Economists whose theories it talks about. This is good - since you learn much more than just the theories; you get to know much more about the Economists than just the theories they postulated.

2. The chapters progress from simple logic to not-so-simple theories. David Smith has written the text beautifully - it's nice to read and 'digest' this lunch.

3. One negative point - sometimes the storyline moves very slowly. There were many instances where I grew impatient with the reading and flipped pages to see where it all was leading to. The style could have been more concise.

Overall, I would rate this book a 4 out of 5. It's written in a lucid style, but probably won't appeal to everyone - particularly not to those who prefer fast readups.

Starts good, but progresses into the complex topics in a convoluted way

The book starts pretty good, explains a lot of basic stuff in simple language. Where things start getting bad is when the author takes a nasty personal attack at some economists he does not like. Delves into the personal lives in uncharacteristic fashion for any economics author.

The other aspect that rubbed me the wrong way is he is not able to explain complex but remarkable stuffs of the 80s and 90s pushed through in simple language. It gets frustrating when convoluted sentences are used to explain it. I stopped reading the book at around page 200.

The basic story is that Albania sends a plane with another country's markings to bomb the U.S. and we retaliate. However this is not a pacifist (don't build bombs book). This is not a sci-fi book. It could be a speculative fiction or just speculative.

The story begins after the war is completed and radiation is now covering the world. Australia is the last place to be covered. You read how different people are about to meat their end, some with hope, others with reckless abandon. Still there are those like the US sub commander Dwight Towers is loyal to his country to the end by not allowing U.S. property in the end to fall into the hands of the Aussies.

The book was written in the Cold War Era environment. So many people think that it is about countries and war; others think this story is some anti war story. The reality is that it is a study of people meeting a sure end and how they react. Other readers will balk at the actions of the people in this story; yet when they meet the same situation we will see how realistic the characters are. Still others will balk at the predictability of the characters. Still this is how many people get over a crisis by being predictable. It is these characteristics that make this novel timeless. Someone else must think so or they would not have made an updated version for our not too distant future.

There are people on our planet who firmly believe that a nuclear war is winnable. It isn't.

"On the Beach" is a must read for anybody who thinks that way because Neville Shute foresaw the minutiae of the relentless spread of nuclear fall-out which gradually would engulf the planet. The realization by the book's main characters that there is no way out is chilling and has the effect of turning all the values we hold dear on their head.

Shute is a story teller par excellence and he excels in relating his story in incredible detail which shows through in scenes like the one where they sail into a ruined New York harbor trying to track down what they think is an amateur radio operator trying to send out a distress call. The detail makes it compelling. It is unputdownable!That Will Do Nicely

About the Author
Chuan-Kun Wu, a research professor at the Institute of Information Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, majoring in information security and related�fundamental�mathematics. He has published over 100 refereed research papers, and has co-authored a few books.
Dengguo Feng, a research professor at the Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences, majoring in information security and cryptology. He has published over 200 refereed research papers, including those�published�in journals such as "Theoretical Computer Science", "IEEE Trans. on Information Theory", and conference papers presented at Crypto and Eurocrypt. He has published over 20 books and has leaded drafting over 20 international and national standards.
